Samuel D’Amelio, Nashville, TN

Age: 26
Occupation/Study: I did the University thing. B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience (aka Psychology, aka employee at Starbucks). After nearly preparing myself for hara-kiri while working a well paying tech job down in Houston and instructing HPDE’s, I returned and still continue to hold down multiple residencies DJ’ing in Nashville (and have for 6 years). It’s always different, and I actually make a decent living at it. Recently, these have been primarily Y2K and Girls & Boys Nashville. However, the real baby and labor of love has been engineering and writing, most recently with a guy named David Miller (of Mother/Father). We started a project, band, whatever the fuck works — called Cloak & Dagger. A very deep and dark endeavour that, using recent artists as comparison instead of going back into The Chameleons or Echo and the Bunnymen as references..falls somewhere between The Horrors, M83 and Thieves Like Us. U.S. release will be sometime in March with VoodooVillage, but really pushing hard for some Moshi Moshi/Kitsune’esque circuits and exposure. We’ll see. Either way, it’s what I do, and I love doing it.
Hometown: Houston, TX. Currently living in Nashville, TN.
Favorite Hangouts: I don’t play favorites - I drift as much as possible. Within the geographical context of Nashville, I love flopping down outside this one indie coffee shop called Fido and people watching with the iPod for, shit, for hours. Do people even use iPods anymore? There’s a few alright bars around here although you have to put up with self-deprecating, ego-maniacal musicians and crusty women (and that’s not even referring to the East Nashville bar scene, which has it’s fun moments). I do, however, love a few venues around here for the vibe. The End is infamous. Exit/In is good. Mercy Lounge is moody. Honestly though, I’m more inclined to pick-up a 12 pack of PBR and go work on something (however pointless it is) than I am to beach myself at some bar.
